In addition to Robert, two other members of the Hamamura family were incarcerated during the war. Father Chiyomatsu, an Anahola storekeeper, was sent to the Mainland with other Issei prisoners in March 1942. He died in August 1945, never returing to Hawaii. Robert's brother, Edward Hiroshi, was a University of Southern California student when the war broke out and was sent to the Granada Relocation Camp in Colorado.
