Yoshie Hashimoto and her husband, Shigeichi, both born in Hawaii, were residents of Gardena, California, prior to the war. In late November 1941, Yoshie and daughters travelled to Hawaii and were there when the war broke out. The Hashimoto family was reunited in Gila River Camp.
