During the war, the federal government seized Kotohira Jinsha's land and shrine over suspicions about the organization's ties to Japan. With Rev. Misao Isobe's internment and the shrine's seizure, all religious services ceased. When in 1948 the government announced it's intention to put up for public sale the seized land, Kotohira members sued both the state and federal governments for the return of the property and shrine. A federal judge ruled in the organization's favor, and in October 1950, Kotohira Jinsha held an autumn festival, its first religious celebration in nearly nine years.
