Sand Island Internment Camp, Honolulu, Oahu Island

In late July 1942, under confinement at the Sand Island Internment Camp, Yoichi Kagimoto fell ill and was admitted to the camp infirmary. Early on the morning of July 27, Kagimoto was found unresponsive in his bed. A fellow incarceree, the physician Motokazu Mori, examined Kagimoto and, with the help of physicians Yokichi Uyehara and Shunji Ikuta, attempted to resuscitate him. Their efforts did not succeed, and Kagimoto was pronounced dead at 7 a.m.

Kagimoto was the second Sand Island prisoner to die under confinement, the first having been Hisahiko Kokubo of Waimea, Kauai.
