Some nine months after Inosaku Kinoshita's release from confinement, son Takeji Kinoshita responded to a call for volunteers to form a segregated fighting unit within the U.S. Army. A platoon sergeant with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Takeji Kinoshita was awarded a Bronze Star for valor in combat.
