Tsutomu Magata's older son, Hiroshi Magata, was a soldier in the U.S. Army at the time of his father's arrest and confinement. Hiroshi Magata was a sergeant with the famed 100th Infantry Battalion. Younger son, George Junji Magata, volunteered as a Japanese-language interpreter and was assigned to the army's Military Intelligence Service. He was inducted in January 1944, just one month after his father's sudden death.
