Sand Island Internment Camp, Honolulu, Oahu Island
This internee was among twenty-eight men (mostly Issei) who were sent in the sixth transfer group for internment in U.S. Army and Justice Department camps on the Mainland. The internees were sent together from camp to camp, with some paroled to War Relocation Authority camps to reunite with family or transferred for repatriation to Japan.

Arrived in Honolulu with about 775 other internees aboard the military troopship the Shawnee.
Jinji Murakami's sons Paul Fukuo Murakami and Hideo Murakami served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II. Paul Fukuo Murakami received training as a linguist at the army's Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, before serving with the MIS. Hideo Murakami also was trained as a linguist and served as a translator-interpreter with the U.S. Occupation forces in Japan.
