Internment Locations
Sand Island Internment Camp, Honolulu, Oahu Island
A group of twenty-eight Hawaii men (mostly Issei) were sent in the sixth transfer group for internment in U.S. Army and Department of Justice camps on the Mainland. The internees were sent together from camp to camp. Some were paroled to War Relocation Authority camps and reunited with family members, others were transferred for repatriation to Japan.

Arrived in Honolulu with about 775 other internees aboard the military troopship the Shawnee.
Jinji Murakami's sons Paul Fukuo Murakami and Hideo Murakami served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II. Paul Fukuo Murakami received training as a linguist at the army's Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, before serving with the MIS. Hideo Murakami also was trained as a linguist and served as a translator-interpreter with the U.S. Occupation forces in Japan.
