Before the war, Kazuichi Nakahara and his brothers, Tokushige and Mitsue Nakahara, worked at the Kewalo boatyard building the wooden hulled sampans used by Hawaii's long-line, aku fisherman, honing a craft learned through years of training in Yamaguchi, Japan.
