Two of Kanaye Sahara's younger brothers served in the U.S. Army during the war. Atsuo Sahara was a staff sergeant with the 100th Infantry Battalion, A Company. He was killed in Italy in August 1944. Tamotsu Sahara served with the Military Intelligence Service and received linguistics training at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
