Yasaburo Sakai arrived in the Hawaiian Islands from Shizuoka in 1910. He worked as a teacher at Mills College in Honolulu before becoming an ordained Congregationalist minister in the 1930s. He served at the Hanapepe Japanese Christian Church on Kauai Island and then at the Lanai City Japanese Church.
