Nisei Yoshio Tanimoto was a prominent Hilo businessman and served in the 1930s as an executive with the Hilo Japanese Chamber of Commerce. His son, Tom Tanimoto, received linguistics training at Fort Snelling in Minnesota and was a World War II veteran of the Military Intelligence Service.
