This internee was among 29 Issei men who were sent on the tenth transfer ship for internment on the Mainland. Some were later paroled to War Relocation Authority camps to reunite with family.

Santa Fe Internment Camp, New Mexico

January 1944 - October 1945


Returned to Hawaii: November 1945

Arrived in Honolulu with 450 other internees aboard the military troopship the Yarmouth.


During Hitoshi Uyesugi's incarceration, his son Masakazu Uyesugi served as a member of the U.S. Army's Military Intelligence Service and received linguistics training at the MIS Language School at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. 

After the war, Hitoshi Uyesugi returned to the islands and continued his work as a Japanese language teacher in a career that would span more than 50 years.
