Shigeki Fujimoto was the son of prominent Hilo businessman Isaku Fujimoto, the director of the family's import-export business, Fujimoto Trading Company, and the founder along with Isojiro Kitagawa of Hilo's Nichibei Sake Brewery. Shigeki worked with his uncle, Eiji Fujimoto, to run the family business.
