Shikazo Hayashi's son Hoichi changed his last name to Matsubara in 1941. This likely was the result of his adoption by his uncle, Kyutaro Matsubara, who also was interned.
During the war, Shikazo Hayashi's son Tatsuo Hayashi served in the U.S. military as a member of the 100th Infantry Battalion.
