Before the war, Moichi Matsumoto served as an executive officer with the Honolulu Japanese Contractors Association. Other Hawaii internees who also were executives in the association included Shigeru Horita, Minoru Nakano, Tamejiro Nakano, Osuke Shigemoto, and Seiichi Sugimoto.
