Internment Locations
Honouliuli Internment Camp, Oahu Island
Tule Lake Segregation Center, California
July 1945 - November 1945
Returned to Hawaii: December 1945
Arrived in Honolulu with about 775 other internees aboard the military troopship the Shawnee.
In the summer of 1945, five young prisoners at the Honouliuli camp (Kiyoshi Nakasone, Ichiro Oshima, Hatsuo Oshiro, Susumu Tokuhara, and George Uehara) were involved in an altercation with an elderly Issei internee (Goro Yoshida) over the latter's assertion that Japan was losing the ongoing war. The five young men were sent to Tule Lake within a few weeks of the event, making theirs the last group of Hawaii internees to be transferred to the Mainland before the end of the war.
