ハワイ州の日系アメリカ人の多くは、第二次世界大戦中に拘束および収容されましたが、その経験について公の場で（あるいはほとんどの場合は、個人的にも）話すことはありませんでした。ハワイ州被収容者名簿の目的は、1941年の真珠湾の爆撃に続く出来事により、人生が永遠に変わってしまった2,200人以上の人々の証人となることにあります。現代の出来事がこの歴史と並行し、国家安全保障への脅威が個人の市民権を危険にさらす時代においては特にそうですが、これらの被収容者のことを記憶にとどめるのは私たちにかかっています。
