Hawaii-born Yoshio Akizaki founded the original Inari Shrine in Kakaako in 1914. The Inari Shrine was administered by the Akizaki family until its removal for preservation to the Waipahu Cultural Garden Park in 1979. Today it is the Wakamiya Inari Shrine in Waipahu.
