Kimiko Kuniyuki Arita was among four members of the extended Kuniyuki family to be interned during the war. Like her husband, Takazo Arita, Kimiko's uncle Aisuke Kuniyuki was sent to the Mainland for internment. Kimiko's cousin, Takeo Kuniyuki, who worked for the Aritas in their barber shop before the war, was confined mostly at the Honouliuli Internment Camp on Oahu Island.
During this same period, four of Kimiko's cousins served in the U.S. military: cousin Takeo Kuniyuki's brother Naoji Kuniyuki plus three of uncle Aisuke Kuniyuki's sons -- Henry Seiya Kuniyuki, Edward Mutsuya Kuniyuki, and George Nobuya Kuniyuki (also known as Klayton).
