Hikotaro Komori arrived in Hawaii from his native Wakayama Prefecture when he was 19 years old. He married Tsuneko Hiraoka of Ewa, Oahu, and together they reared six children. Komori worked as a fisherman for twenty years before the war.

In May 1944, shortly after the family's arrival at Tule Lake, Komori died following a long illness. His family was transferred to the Manzanar Concentration Camp.
