Evelyn Hirama married Edward Satoru Miyake of Kauai while she was incarcerated in Jerome and he was stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, as a member of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
She was the only member of her interned family who did not expatriate to Japan.
