Honouliuli Internment Camp, Oahu Island
In June 1942, Kakuo Okimura was sentenced in a Hilo provost court to five years at hard labor for committing larceny and mail fraud in an attempt to frame a Japanese American for treason. He was sent to Oahu Prison in Honolulu and some two years later was ordered interned for the duration of the war by the U.S. Army. Okimura was thus transferred in June 1944 from Oahu Prison to Honouliuli.
