Kametaro Yabuta's four sons all served in the U.S. Army. Eldest son Masao Yabuta was drafted in 1944 into the all-Japanese American 1399th Engineering Construction Battalion stationed on Oahu Island. Hihuo Yabuta volunteered in spring 1943 and was a member of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Tetsuo Ted Yabuta received linguistics training at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and served in the army's Military Intelligence Service. Youngest son Takeo Yabuta was inducted shortly after the conclusion of hostilities in the Pacific War.
