Tame Iga was the wife of Matsujiro Iga, the elderly priest of the Inari Jinsha, a Shinto temple in downtown Hilo. In April 1942, Matsujiro suffered a stroke and died. Some four months later, his widow, then 77 years old, was arrested and incarcerated, first on the Big Island and then on Oahu.
After the war, Tame Iga served as the temple's priest until her death in 1951.
