Miyo Nakao and her husband, Saburosuke Nakao, were arrested and detained for one month in 1942. They were held first at the army's Kilauea Military Camp, some ten miles from their home, and then at the Sand Island Internment Camp on Oahu.
Saburosuke Nakao was the founder of the Tenrikyo Church in the community of Mountain View. He died in 1947 and Miyo Nakao continued as a Tenrikyo reverend and the church's leader.
